Product information "Graphite powder BT40, carbon min. 99.6%, 7782-42-5, pure, synthetic, anthracite, super fine powder"
This synthetic graphite powder is produced by high-temperature graphitisation of carbonaceous precursors and is characterised by an exceptionally high carbon content of at least 99.6% and a fine, narrowly defined particle size distribution. Its pronounced crystalline layered structure, in which carbon atoms are arranged in hexagonal basal planes, confers excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. At the same time, the weak van der Waals interactions between adjacent layers allow them to slide readily over one another, which accounts for the material's characteristic lubricating properties.
The low ash content and minimal residual moisture reduce the influence of metallic and other impurities, thereby ensuring a high degree of reproducibility in demanding applications. The powder is particularly well suited to uses in which defined requirements regarding electrical conductivity and dispersibility within matrix systems must be met.

Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)
How does synthetic graphite differ from natural graphite?
Synthetic graphite is produced industrially at temperatures above 2,500 °C and therefore generally offers higher purity and more consistent quality than mined natural graphite.
Can the powder replace molybdenum disulphide as a dry lubricant?
In many applications, yes. However, suitability depends on the specific operating conditions (e.g. atmosphere, temperature, load); preliminary testing is recommended.
What do the values D10, D50 and D90 mean?
They describe the particle size distribution: 10%, 50% and 90% of the particles (by volume) are smaller than the respective value stated. D50 corresponds to the median.
Is the material suitable for lithium-ion batteries?
The powder can be used as an anode material. Particle size, surface area and electrolyte compatibility should be assessed for each specific cell design.
